Dave’s 2022 Gear Recommendations
- Many will agree that quality glass is a huge item to have in your gear bag. The better the clarity, the easier it is to get a sight picture, the better the quality is overall makes a huge difference when you are behind glass for extended periods of times.
I upgraded from a pair of Vortex Diamondback 10×42 (Cabela’s Black Friday Special) binos to the Maven Optics B.6 12×50 binos. At first I didn’t notice a huge upgrade when considering the price increase. But the more I used the Mavens, the more I noticed how easy they were on the eyes when glassing.

- I’m admittedly not into long range shooting as much as the rest of the team. It’s something I am getting more into but I am far from what I would call experienced. I am far more familiar with close to mid range tools. AR15’s, handguns, shotguns, etc. I conceal carry every day and have for 15 years (with the few exceptions travelling outside of the country and whatnot).
Another product (these are no in particular order) that I highly recommend is a high quality kydex holster. I appendix carry, and I prefer to have an extra mag/side car on my holster. I have been using McKinatec holsters for a few years now and really like their Kina Flex Rig. I have one for my Sig Sauer P365 and my Arex Delta M Gen2 (pictured below), which is my current concealed carry weapon of choice.

- I like to camp. I’m getting into hunting more. I’m getting into knives more. A product I found last year that I was pretty impressed with was the Speedy Sharp blade sharpener. It’s very compact and very effective at sharpening blades. It’s also relatively inexpensive at around $14 on Amazon.
I was impressed with how quickly and effectively it sharpened my pocket knives and even my kitchen scissors once I kind of figured out a good angle. I’m not very experienced at sharpening knives, especially “free hand” where the angle is set by how I hold the sharpener without any guides. So once I kind of got an idea of a good angle, it worked great.
With how compact and inexpensive these are, you can buy several and keep one in each of your hunting bags, vehicle, camp tote, etc.

- Like I mentioned previously, I’m more of an AR15 guy than a bolt action long range precision guy. With that comes the territory of assembling America’s favorite rifle from parts. Anyone who has assembled an AR15 before knows the pain and struggle of inserting the pivot pin.
I present to you: The Real Avid Pivot Pin Tool. This tool made the pivot pin assembly a dream.
