JD grew up in the Pacific Northwest and enlisted in the military in 2005, beginning his career in Special Operations. Since then, he has dedicated over eight years of it specializing as a sniper and instructor. He pursues competitive shooting to develop his professional abilities and his capacity to teach.
Whenever he approaches a competition, his first goal is to figure out what system fits the design of the stages the best that is currently in service so he can take more applicable lessons back to his students. The recommendations he provides for equipment and training are based on what the asking individual needs. Rarely, if ever, will he sell an item based on name-brand alone. He has designed multiple stages for various sniper competitions and is working on developing his own series based on various observations of multiple competitions.
In addition to shooting, JD enjoys time outdoors camping with his family and passing on his passions to them. He is focused on building on his medical training and pursuing a career in medicine following his time in the military. Since joining Team POI, then LRT, he has co-hosted multiple podcasts and reviewed for POI. He is looking at broadening his reviews from rifles and applicable gear to include camping and backpacking equipment.
